Hi fellow travellers,

I'm planning a holiday with my folks over the christmas period and possible over New year. Any recommendations for what countries to go to? I'm asking cos I actually planned to go Southern France but as I researched I found out quite alot of places of interest e.g hisorical, museums etc are closed durin this period and activity is on the low so I din want to go to a place where everything's closed..

so.. any recomendations?

There are quite a few places I like at xmas -

Vienna is beautiful, normally there is snow and it is usually very cold. However the xmas markets are second to none - all the street smell of mulled wine and roasted chestnuts - great atmosphere.

Next - Prague - all the above and a bit cheaper - though not quite as stunning.

Go skiing - Slovacia - the Tatras are the place to head to - think France 30 yrs ago - quite charming.

Scotland - Edinburgh - a must at least once in a life for New Year - the best party in the world. And to get away from it all head to the highlands.

Hope some of this helps.

it does it does! we've just been to edinbrugh last year so I don't think we'd go agai anytime soon.

Vienna and Prague sound cool.. but I'm not sure if it's convenient to go there. Cos mum works in SIA so we get free tix to SIA locations but def worth a few minutes research on how to get there!

snow wud be nice in christmas!

Romania's Carpathian mountains are great (if there is snow). There are many old castles to visit, it is a beautiful country, especially the mountains region Smile
Try googling for "Poiana Brasov, Romania" and "Sinaia, Romania".

Cheers Smile

Consider going to Spain and Greece also temperature is mild there.

A great place to enjoy winter vacations.

Vienna is my favorite place. I think Vienna is more beautiful place to enjoy the winter vacations, because normally there is snow and it is very cold. An ideal place to enjoy winter vacations.
